In this course we will look at light as a source, medium and subject for moving images in art and film. We will remember early projection apparatuses, travel through different cinematic spaces, talk about video installations and displays and analyze corresponding architectural exhibition settings. Based on short lectures, screenings and readings, a theoretical, historical and contemporary framework will provide the context for a participatory and mainly practical course structure. Collaborative exercises include guidance for shooting with natural and artificial light (camera work), basic lighting concepts for staged settings (studio), and color of light in post production (Da Vinci Resolve).
Active participation and min. 75% attendance required, submission of the results of our exercises.
The preliminary meeting is required.
