Description

Models

Some artists use models, architects build models, medical research kills models, climate researchers predict by using models, a mathematician abstracts models, chemists render 3D atomic-resolution protein models, philosophers ponder upon models. We are surrounded by models and they affect our way how we relate to our reality. (Sure, not to forget the models of the spreading virus that make us think about or forget the finite nature of our existence)
The course aims at exploring some aspects of the role these models play, predominantly produced "in silico", in the sciences and how their presence affects the relationship between science and society.

Examination Modalities

Exploring and representing projects in small groups; 80% attendance; active collaboration in form of research and presentations, reading the literature and preparation of introductory notes.
