ACTION!!!!!!!!!! Anthology Filmmaking through Collaboration
now becomes
ACTION!!!!!!!!!! Anthology Filmmaking on Your Own

The main concept of this course has been changed from collaboration to working solo, on your own, and using video conferencing platforms as media to communicate with each other.

For this course, Wolfgang Gantner (Gelatin) and Scott Clifford Evans will oversee the creation of an anthology film. An anthology film is a series of short films that are tied together with an overarching theme and presented as one work.

The students make short films that will be put together into one anthology film.
The students will learn basic filmmaking skills.
The students will learn basic acting techniques/games.
The theme of the film will be "cooking show."

Some examples of "cooking shows":
Martha Rosler's Semiotics of the Kitchen,
Paul McCarthy's Bossy Burger,
various Cooking series starring Keith Floyd or Antonio Carluccio.

Examination Modalities

To take part in this class you will need:

  • A Desktop/Laptop with a Firefox/Chrome browser + webcam + microphone + headset
  • An Internet connection fast enough to watch HD videos

All meetings will be on the online-meeting platform

We will meet for one introductory session with explanations of what we are doing and to introduce ourselves and meet and greet.
May 6, 12-14h

The students will be split into two groups. Each group will meet for a session to discuss the working process and perform acting games and techniques.
These will be derived from the acting games/practices espoused by Lee Strasberg and Viola Spolin.
May 11, 13-15:30h – Group 1
May 11, 16-18:30h – Group 2

The students will film a "cooking show" segment for inclusion in the anthology film. The length will be limited to 3-5 minutes. They will film themselves, acting solo, teaching the viewer how to cook a dish.
The dish is their choice. They can go as abstract as they'd like. But they must do three takes of the scene. They then must choose one of the three takes to send for the final project.
May 12, 13-19h

We will have an online meeting with each student individually to watch the student's take and ask them why they chose this take for inclusion.
May 14, 13-19h
May 15, 13-19h
May 28, 17-19h

A final meeting with all students will bring a decision where to show the final result/project anthology film.
May 28, 19:30-21h

At the moment only  Bachelor students (Cross-Disciplinary Strategies) who need this course for their foundation phase are accepted.

Students from other faculties or universities will be given a place on the course subject to room capacities.
