2020S, Vorlesung und Diskussion (VD), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 SemStd., LV-Nr. S03131

Beschreibung

Following up of the course in fall 2019, we shall continue to discuss reasons for development and underdevelopment. We shall start up by dealing with historical reasons for uneven development (slavery and colonialism), move on to the contemporary world order (sovereignty, international regulation, the influence of the World Bank and IMF on development, free trade agreements) and also tackle questions of democracy, cultural differences, and the influence of new modes of communication.

If wished by the students and useful for the whole course, their projects on utopias shall be included in the course.

Prüfungsmodalitäten

Attendance: Mandatory for at least 2/3 of the lectures (20 hours)

Active participation in class

All students have to give a presentation as part of their work. This presentation can either take place in class or as part of the finals of the CDC course on 12 June 2020.

Contents of these presentations and further forms of evaluation of students' achievements will be discussed in the first unit and individually agreed upon with the students. They will, in any case, include some kind of written work coming out of the contents of the course and/or the annual project of CDS students.

Students who participated already in the Fall Semester and write a longer paper for both semesters have to provide an oral input for this semester. This will be clarified individually.
