Due to the current condition, our meetings will take place online:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Winter semester: “Awesome”

How do industrial modes of production relate to art production? What are the narrations that can be found in artistic as well as in economic strategies? From an analysis of the context, the materiality and the strategies behind the production of the chosen examples each student will develop a strategy / a work. Results will be presented in the setting of a group exhibition at the end of the winter term.

Summer semester: “Keep on improving!”

As a continuation of our reflections, in the summer semester, we will deal with the concepts of a workspace by creating a working environment/studio space/laboratory in the CDS rooms. More specifically, we will be engaged in the development of a display and discuss different notions behind the term „presentation". We will continue our discussion on value/work as an artistic strategy. Still, thematically, we will base our work more on the future scenarios outlined in CDC and look for options of implementing artistic strategies in those.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

„Using stock footage and templates is kind of the equivalent of periodically saying „awesome” in order to pretend one is listening to an annoying conversation while one has left already behind laser-cut stand-up displays to fake participation and attendance in several places at the same time.”  (Hito Steyerl, in “The Terror of Total Dasein”, Duty Free Art, Verso, 2019)
