ABOUT:
Applied Design Concepts is conducted by Sophie C. Grell and Jose Carlos Lopez Cervantes

Applied Design Concepts is an advanced architectural design seminar which examines the connection between conceptual understanding of design and form generation. Students will revisit formal outputs derived from relevant conceptual approaches within the discipline of architecture.

Essential knowledge will be acquired by modeling. First by looking and replicating canonical projects and understanding their conceptual approach and later through small tasks of ideation, design and development carried out during class time. In order to apply this methodology the students will be instructed in a specific software, Autodesk Maya. Students will be immersed in 6 different topics. Every topic will last two weeks. They will be instructed in theory and simultaneously they will be equipped with techniques of design and representation.

OUTPUT:
No specific project will be developed for this seminar. It is not a design studio, so the task will be adjusted consequently, and it could be compatible at the end of the semester with the studio design agenda of the student. Nevertheless there will be small independent tasks that should be done during the class time. Attendance is mandatory
