DigDesFab19 - 3D Printed Concrete Expressions
Design/Build of Digital Artifacts in 3D printed concrete (in cooperation with PrintStones GmbH)
This class teaches the application of contemporary digital design and fabrication methods in applied, full-scale implementations. Student groups will generate knowhow through the analysis of reference examples, and will design parametric structures in full-scale by using easily processable materials. The design process will be enriched with virtual analyzing methods of parametric models. External specialists will provide in-depth expertise during class. Virtual simulations of load bearing and performative behavior of architectural systems will be encouraged. Special emphasis will be put on the successful interaction of digital design and production technology, primarily in architectural detailing. The classwork is experimental and research oriented, different materials and architectural systems will be researched, discussed and applied.
Structures will be built and exhibited in full scale (group work).
Attendance and participation is required throughout the whole design and production process.
Final review presentation/ submission of a print medium/ a data CD.
Applying parametric design principles in an hands-on, applied way. Learning of knowhow in virtual analyzing methods in evaluating design geometries (Rhino/Grasshopper/Karamba) and digital production methods (Robotics, Laser, CNC).
Interest in digital design and production methods, knowledge in parametric/algorithmic modeling, Rhino/Grasshopper/Karamba.
