Arts and Society, Cross-Disciplinary Strategies
2019S, Artistic Practice and Theoretical Reflecion (KPR), 2.0 semester hours, course number S02626
The course will focus on the theoretical and practical application of media aesthetics in artistic and cross-disciplinary strategies. This includes the confrontation with differences and similarities between art, science and humanities, as well as with selected examples of aesthetic strategies aiming to reach into various societal fields.
An important part of the course builds on the possibility for students to meet artists, artistic researchers, as well as experts from the socio-cultural field in persona, either through guest lectures or through studio visits and excursions.
- Attendance is mandatory at all lectures. Attendance will be registered on a sign-in sheet at the beginning of class.
- Active participation during class.
- Semester project, either theoretical or practical.
This course is complementary to the courses of Leo Schatzl and Carlos Toledo. Students in my course will have the possibility to reflect about their practical work in the other two courses if they wish.

With his Blinklicht Media Lab he built an archive of several thousand pieces of handwritten autobiographical material, founded „edition IMPORT/EXPORT“, an imprint where so far he has published more than a dozen volumes comprising about half of the collected material. Just recently he started the book series „GESCHICHTEN DER GEGENWART“ as an experiment in narrative democracy inspired by Pierre Rosanvallons works on the subject („Narrative democracy is a way of building a society of individuals, completely equal in dignity, recognition, and consideration, who form a common society“).
