2019S, Lecture and Discussion (VOD), 1.0 semester hours, course number S02625

Description

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent an important political framework for global sustainable development until 2030. But what are their potentials? In this course, we tackle the scientific discussion around the SDGs and discuss trade-offs among the different goals. We attend an international scientific symposium in Vienna to learn about scientific contributions to particular SDGs in the context of a mediatized society. In groups we reflect on the individual conference contributions and identify diverging standpoints. In groups, we elaborate existing and potential trade-offs among particular SDGs.

Examination Modalities

Students are required to read one introductory text on the SDGs, attend and participate in the course, attend at least one session of the symposium (preferably more), present (in groups) the content of one session to the other students and write (in groups) a reflection paper.
