The Basic Statistics and Graphics for Biomolecular Strategies course of Tanja Gesell and Elin Axelsson-Ekker will impart knowledge of statistical thinking, and fundamentals of data exploration and analysis as well as data visualisations. Additionally, students will learn the basics of a programming language relevant for statistics, the R language. Along with this line, the course will provide a comprehensive introduction on how to plot data with R’s default graphics system, base graphics. R is one of the most widely used statistical languages in Data Science across a wide variety of disciplines. 
After the first part of this course, students should have general statistical skills, which they can apply, in different fields. In the second part of the course, they will learn and apply special skills and programs that are necessary for a project for Biomolecular Strategies. We will include the students in the analysis, based on their current knowledge, skills, and preferences.

The grade will depend the contributions to the discussions and exercises during the semester (50%) and the project work (50%). Attendance at the lecture is not mandatory but recommended.

Students from other faculties or universities will be given a place on the course subject to room capacities.
