Fine Arts and Media Art, Transmedia Art
2018W, Seminar (SE), 2.0 semester hours, course number S02108
In this course we will look at light as a source, medium and subject for moving images in art and film. While analyzing its materiality and different aspects of the projection apparatus, we will travel through cinematic spaces light creates, sculptural spaces it builds, and architectural spaces in which it is perceived. Based on short lectures, screenings and readings, a theoretical, historical and contemporary framework will provide the context for a participatory and mainly practical course structure. Collaborative exercises include guidance for shooting with natural and artificial light (camera work), basic lighting concepts for staged settings (studio), color of light in post production (Da Vinci Resolve), conceptual and technical aspects of installation and projection strategies in different spatial settings (exhibition/cinema/public space).
The course is organized in two full weekend sessions per semester.
Active participation and min. 75% attendance required, submission of the results of our exercises.
