Body-based performative strategies applied to digital arts

This seminar stands in the context of post-digitality: where the digital arts break out of the confinement of the screen to re-read the space of the real and the field of multimodal perception, and where the tools to collect corporeal data are ubiquitous and increasingly available.

How do we make bodies talk? For example: How can we direct an actor-performer in a motion-capture suit? How do we direct ourselves in order to produce a significant gesture, directly related to the developed artistic concept? What behaviors and which movement parameters to develop? And which aesthetic to adopt?

Participants will be initiated to the basics of body-based performance outside the clichés that may be attached to it. The goal is to develop critical thinking about the potential of body language as an artistic medium in itself and as an asset for interfacing with media art-works.

In the form of a practical workshop encouraging exchange and discussion, the seminar has the aim of developing tools for the integration of body-based performance into the digital arts. There will be equal emphasis on the practice of individual physical exercises focused on perceptual awareness and on the transposition of performative concepts into scripts linked to digital art projects.
