Description

The Years of Lead. Art and Politics in the 1970ies

In this lecture we will look at the 70ies not as a decade but as a period in the aftermath of ’68, driven by the ideas of liberation, youth culture, social change and the struggle for revolution, be it with real weapons or on the level of ideals. For a moment art production and political agitation coincide. Together with artists of the ‘70ies we will discuss the meaning of public sphere, community, collectivity or “movement” and take a critical look at the images of the RAF, artistic political actions and the awakening of a new feminist movement.

Examination Modalities

regular attendance (maximum 2 absences),  contributions in group discussions, one presentation and a short scientific text at the end of the semester (5 pages, will be explained in the lecture)

Be ready to read texts and watch long films for preparation so that we can discuss them together in the seminar.

LANGUAGE: Besides German you can hand in your text in English or Italian, also your presentation and reading can be done in English. (We will partly deal with texts that are originally written in French or Italian.)
