This is the fourth (and last) part of the survey course on Art History, focussing on contemporary art since the 1950s, in 12 thematic chapters. This presentation will include an assessment of the relevant criteria that characterise and periodize contemporary art history.

Each chapter will discuss artworks or projects along thematic axes relevant today: mediality and conceptuality, connections between the presentation and documentation of art, migration, transculturality and globalisation,  freedom of expression in art, the social turn in art.

The lecture is accompanied by a tutorial led by Ramona Hirt.

There will be a written exam at the end of the term, which can be taken in German or English.

There will be two more exam dates at the beginning and at the middle of the following term, respectively. After that no later exam dates will be held, as the lecture will have another focus next year.

Registration for the exam is not necessary. Registration to the lecture is recommended in order to facilitate access to lecture materials (texts, images, films etc).

The lecture will be held in German. Registration is not necessary. Regular attendance is advised.

A large number of books relevant for the lecture can be consulted in the interimistic "reading room" next to the Mensa in the main building.
