PARTICIPATING & OBSERVING & EXPERIENCING & EVALUATING TEAMS IN A DESIGN PROCESS

Objectives of this course are observing and experiencing team and presentation skills in context of a design process.

GLOBAL STUDIO PROJEKT : RE-IMAGINE A FOLKLORE

The upcoming Global Studio theme is re-imaging a folklore. The idea is to re-translate a folklore into an item aimed at elderly (the secould be students grandparents) .

Objectives:

We are hoping that the theme will facilitate and provide the scope for the involved students to explore local believes and assumptions and it will also allow them to suggest ‘playful’ solutions. The project will provide students with a number of learning experiences such as:
Designing with others (cross-cultural communication)
Designing for others (designing for other cultures)        Designprocesses                                                                                             Team Skills                                                                                           Presentation Skills

Get to know: Designprocesses (including Briefing, Embodyment Design, Concept/Design Research, Iterate, Prototype, Present/Test, Evaluate).

Organisation
During this collaborative international project the students will undertake dual roles of: clients and designers. As the ‘clients’ they will commission ‘designers’ a design solution and vice versa they will be commissioned to design solutions by their counterparts.

Anmerkungen

“Design must become an innovative, highly creative, cross- disciplinary tool responsive to the true needs of men. It must be more research-oriented, and we must stop defiling the earth itself with poorly-designed objects and structures“ (Papanek 1971, 3; 2009, 8)

“While the designer in any team situation may know far less psychology than the psychologist, far less economics than the economist, and very little about, say, electrical engineering, he will invariably bring a greater understanding of psychology to the design process than that possessed by the
electrical engineer. By default, he will be the bridge (Papanek 1971, 112)
