Beschreibung

The course will provide a theoretical understanding of how new media transforms public space and influences our behaviour in it and our experience of it through case studies and analysis of artists and artistic projects. Public Space and Media I will focus on the complex interaction of material and immaterial spaces, particularly the transformation of space through projections, monitors, screens, video and interactivity (White Cube vs Black Box).

Various forms of new media art and how they relate to spaces will be analysed:
• projection / screen / monitor art
• videomapping art
• interactive art / computer based art and physical spaces

Along with the theoretical part, the lecture will provide basic knowledge of MAX 7 (cycling74.com), a user-friendly, easy-to-use, well-documented software for video and sound manipulation, simple interactivity programming and videomapping.

Prüfungsmodalitäten

Final practice for Public Space and Media I will be artistic space inventions by means of new media. Students will be asked to re-think a space through monitors, screens, projections, computers, interactivity.
