Description
Construction is both an instrument for producing spaces and objects and a means of artistic expression - a sort of language. The course imparts basic knowledge of the syntax and vocabulary of this language and deals with key construction principles applicable to physical objects of various sizes (architecture, furniture, articles of daily use). Which physical and geometrical laws are to be observed? Which structural systems can be applied to which materials? Which structures, spatial effects and surfaces can thereby be created? These principles are discussed in the weekly lectures and applied and tested in two full-day workshops. On the first workshop day at the beginning of term you will design a small building, on the second day in the second half of the semester you will elaborate and draw it. The project also serves as a basis for the course "Plandarstellung für Industrial Design" (techniques of plan presentation).
Examination Modalities
Active participation in the course, design and constructive elaboration of a small architectural object during the two-days workshop. (Plan presentation of the design is part of the course "Plandarstellung/techniques of plan presentation".)
Comments
The small architectural object which you will design during the two-days workshop will serve as a basis for the drawing of plans in the course "Plandarstellung für Industrial Designer". Therfore, we strongly recommend to combine the courses "Raum und Konstruktion" and "Plandarstellung" (Wednesday 10:45 – 12:15, Anja Jonkhans)
